When a child is comfortable with their body, they are able to move better, develop, & learn.
Hello! I am Dr. Hazel Legaspi. I am a physical therapist specializing in pediatric movement and development. I understand that every child is unique and movement involves more than just improving strength and range of motion--- it takes putting your child at ease with how they feel in their body and an internal motivation to move and play. I believe that it all starts with nervous system regulation and it begins with how we engage and interact with each other as caregivers and how we interact with your child. I believe that for effective changes and progress towards goals, we have to be partners in your child's health and we have to respect your child's unique qualities and strengths.
I am a lover of knowledge and continuously seek to improve my therapeutic skills to enhance the synergy between the nervous system and the rest of the body. I believe the nervous system is the cornerstone of movement and that fascia serves as the crucial bridge in how the body feels, moves, and heals. Without optimal nervous system regulation and fascial health, the synergy and connection within the body becomes stagnant and dysfunction occurs. I am trained in the gentle fascial modalities of
John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Technique (JFB MFR)
and
The Gillespie Approach of Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT).
I have 14 years of experience as a therapist working with newborns and young children in a variety of settings. I am a functional movement expert and use a holistic approach--- this means I look at your child as a complete person, not just their limitations in strength and flexibility.
I am also a mental health advocate. I believe our own mental state as caregivers plays a huge impact on how our children and those around us behave and feel. To experience and make the most impact in our lives and those around us, we must start within.
Having a child that has difficulty with mobility can be very challenging and overwhelming. I am here to help make the journey of physical wellbeing and improved mobility smoother by guiding your child into a state of curiosity and exploration. The synergy between a regulated nervous system and an internal curiosity to explore allows your child to want to move, explore, and learn--- the foundation for holistic movement.
I can help ensure your child achieves all their developmental milestones at the right time. Wellness visits will ensure your child stays on track and early detection of developmental needs can be addressed sooner. You and your child get my undivided attention every session for a full hour. No worrying about your child having to get to know a new therapist every week. No getting distracted by all the ruckus in the clinic.
Save time from driving to and from a clinic. No worrying about timing snacks, naps, and potty time with the drive time. Less stress from all the transitions between home to car, car ride to parking lot, parking lot to waiting room, waiting room to session- - - and all the way back home. More time with your little one!
Ease of mind that I have the professional experience of working with children from a wide range of ages (birth through adolescence) and medical histories to identify key areas to work on. I will advocate for their overall physical and health needs. I can assist your child in getting the proper equipment they need.
